Twenty-five New and Old Ski Clubbers went on the Spirit of Peoria Boat Cruise on June15th. We met at Bill Semlak’s house in Mackinaw at 5:00 for a wine and cheese party before going to Peoria. He had a large assortment of wines to choose from and some nice cheese as well. Brian and Laurel Kutash got to Bill’s place early. From there we car pooled to the spirit of Peoria. The Spirit of Peoria people did up the dock in a Jimmy Buffet, Margaritaville theme with lays for everybody and a hog roast. There was a buffet with different deserts, vegetables, beans and salads to go along with the hog. They also sold watered down Margaritas out of a big jug. Some of the people went on the boat to the bar and got better drinks. The caterer did a really nice job roasting the hog. Sherrill and Tammy Leslie even asked for his card to use for their upcoming block party. John Zschau came without his wife because she did not feel well. He gave her ticket to someone on the dock. Margie Walker came with a group of friends. Jay and Becky Ansher came with dog stories. Ski Club members finally had an opportunity to meet George Vaught’s girlfriend from Rockford that we had heard so much about. New Ski Club Members Patty Whitlock and Donna Moritz came as well.  At 7:00 we boarded the Spirit of Peoria. The featured entertainment was the Boat Drunks. The played a wide variety of songs not just Jimmy Buffet cover songs. It was a beautiful night to be out on the water. There were many pleasure boats that we watched plying the water alongside our boat. We sailed on the Spirit of Peoria north to the end of the section of the Illinois River known as Lake Peoria and turned around and came back. On the return trip the insects attracted by the lights of the boat were overwhelming, so many people headed inside the deck for the rest of the cruise. The ride was over at about 10:00 and everyone headed home. Thanks to Mary Crawford for putting together the trip.
