When does it make sense to buy travel insurance? Only you can answer that question. Everybody’s health, financial, personal, and work circumstances vary. While we as a Ski Club do not necessarily advise that you purchase travel insurance, we do strongly suggest that you take some time determine whether travel insurance is appropriate for you.
The cost of travel insurance is frequently based on the cost of your trip, often 5% - 10 % of your insured trip value. Most policies reimburse you if you, a family member, or a named travel companion, are forced to cancel your trip due to death, illness or injury. Some policies also cover cancellations due to work reasons. Some policies will cover preexisting medical conditions IF the policy is purchased before or within a certain time period of making your initial trip deposit/payment. You should therefore investigate travel insurance before you sign up for the 2008/2009 ski trips. If you are planning to sign up for multiple trips you may want to investigate an “annual policy” rather than individual trip policies.
As with any insurance, when buying travel insurance you should shop around. Many different companies offer travel insurance, including our ski trip tour operators. These policies vary in cost, coverage, and many other details. While we can’t presume to know which policy might be best for you, we can give you some ideas on where and how you might begin your search. The Bloomington-Normal Ski Club does not endorse or recommend any particular Travel Insurance company. We are providing a few company names simply to help you start your research. Many other companies are also available and you should consider researching those as well.

Please take some time now and determine if travel insurance is appropriate for you. If you have questions or want information on the insurance available through our ski trip tour operators, please contact the Winter Trips Chairman at witrp@bnski.orgor by phone at 309-662-2740. You may also contact the trip leader for each particular trip.
